REALTOR® of the Year Award

The REALTOR® of the Year Award is among the highest honour the Vancouver Island Real Estate Board can bestow on its members. It is presented to an individual whose dedication to excellence has had a profound influence on the professional image of Vancouver Island REALTORS® and who exemplifies the characteristics outlined below and who, overall, represents the professionalism symbolized by this award.
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities
  • Co-operation and support to his/her peers
  • Accomplishments at the local, provincial, national levels of organized real estate
  • Participation with other industry stakeholders (e.g. Real Estate Council of BC, Real Estate Foundation and Real Estate Errors & Omissions Insurance Corp. etc.)
  • Community Involvement

CRITERIA

All nominations will be reviewed and judged by the Executive Committee.
  • Candidates must be members in good standing of the Vancouver Island Real Estate Board.
  • Candidates must have made significant contribution in time and effort with a broad impact to the benefit of organized real estate.
  • Testimonials/documentation would be beneficial to the nomination.
  • Candidates are only eligible to win the award once.
  • The nominee's signature must be included, showing his/her willingness to stand.
  • While community involvement is always important, focus on REALTOR® of the Year will be on contributions to organized real estate.
  • Nominations from the previous year are not automatically carried forward but may be resubmitted by the nominator.
  • It is not mandatory that this award be presented every year, but only when the judging panel deems the name of someone truly deserving of this honor is brought forward.
The nomination form can be completed online or by using this form, detailing the nominee's accomplishments and contributions to organized real estate (outlined on the Nominee Information Form). Feel free to email any additional information to help support your nomination regarding how the nominee excelled in serving his or her organization.

The activities shown by each category are intended as examples only, to trigger the recall of your nominee's activity in the category. All the accomplishments and services should fall into one of the 7 categories. Please include testimonials, designations, commendations and any awards.

Where possible insert applicable information related to each of the following:

REALTOR® SPIRIT – High personal and professional principles, faithfulness to bylaws and regulations to the Vancouver Island Real Estate Board (VIREB), compliance to the REALTOR Code®, promotion of REALTOR® image among fellow members of the VIREB, provincial association, national association and to the public, display of the REALTOR® logo in identifications.

BUSINESS ACCOMPLISHMENT – Reputable business conduct, service to clients, imaginative and creative advertising programs, use of business practices conducive to the highest and best use of the land, use of business practices conducive to the enhancement of housing and astute management techniques.

LOCAL BOARD ACTIVITY – Attendance at local Board meetings, offices held in local Board, committee activity including chairmanships, memberships and special assignments, task forces, attendance at and involvement in Board-sponsored seminars, involvement in local MLS®, contributions to government relations, support of local Board principles.

PROVINCIAL ASSOCIATION ACTIVITY – Awareness of provincial association (BCREA) issues and activities and promotion of them, offices held in and services to BCREA, BCREA committee activity including chairmanships and memberships, attendance at BCREA sponsored education sessions and other meetings, attendance at provincial events, special assignments from the BCREA.

NATIONAL ASSOCATION ACTIVITY – Awareness of issues and activities of the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) and promotion of same, attendance at national meetings, attendance at national convention, national association committee activity, compliance with national policies at local level, attendance at national education sessions, involvement and service to national affiliates, activity in special projects.

OTHER INDUSTRY STAKEHOLDERS – Service in any other organized real estate organizations such as Real Estate Council of BC, Real Estate Foundation of BC, Real Estate Errors & Omissions Insurance Corporation etc).

CIVIC ACTIVITY – Membership in and service to civic and service clubs, charitable activities, political commissions, fraternal activities, and religious groups, community involvement and service to special issues, all of which serve as enhancements to the REALTOR® image.
