Open Houses and Showings During COVID-19
The REALTOR® profession is committed to doing its part to respect social distancing and help protect public health during the COVID-19 crisis. As such, VIREB supports a temporary suspension of open houses and showings while the pandemic is ongoing. We urge consumers who may find themselves involved in a real estate transaction during this pandemic to follow the guidance of their REALTOR® and opt for virtual alternatives instead of face-to-face transactions.
COVID-19 and Virtual Real-Estate Solutions
Organized real estate is working with government and other professionals in the real estate sector, such as lawyers and notaries, to find virtual solutions to the many steps involved in completing a transaction and transferring a property. However, our top priority is public health. Real estate transactions can continue as long as everyone involved is protected.
Real Estate Declared an Essential Service During COVID-19 Pandemic
The provincial government has included real estate professionals in its list of essential-service providers. This designation recognizes that many British Columbians are currently involved in real estate transactions that began before the pandemic was declared or may need to be involved in one in the coming weeks and months. Allowing transactions to continue while respecting social distancing requirements will help many British Columbians avoid additional financial hardships and carry on with their lives. The real estate industry’s embrace of technology, such as virtual tours and electronic document signing, makes it possible to conduct a large part of the real estate transaction without face-to-face interaction.
