OUR HISTORY

The Vancouver Island Real Estate Board got its start in 1951 as part of a growing effort to professionalize the real estate industry. That year, three Nanaimo real estate salesmen came together and formed the Nanaimo Real Estate Board. Although these salesmen were competitors in the industry, they recognized a growing need for industry education and standardized sales practices. They wanted to professionalize the industry and ensure public confidence.

More than sixty years later, VIREB is an active part of organized real estate in Canada, committed to improving real estate standards and encouraging positive home ownership policies for all Canadians.
