Nanaimo, BC - They faced off, for the good of the community. The 1st Annual Vancouver Island Real Estate Board REALTOR® Charity Hockey Game, organized by Nanaimo REALTORS® Justus Edmundson (RE/MAX of Nanaimo) and Jordan Belveal (Coast Realty Group), raised $1,100 for the Nanaimo Community Hospice Society April 26th.
A total of 22 REALTORS®, coming from across Central Vancouver Island, laced up their skates as participants in the fund raiser. A small but enthusiastic audience cheered their hockey heroes on during the inaugural version of this annual event. “Our goal is for this to be the first of many,” Edmundson said prior to the game.
Held at the Cliff McNabb Arena at Nanaimo’s Beban Park, the all in fun event raised money through fees paid by the volunteer players to cover the rental of the ice surface, with the remainder being donated to the Hospice Society.
On May 2, organizers Edmundson and Belveal presented Wendy Pratt, Executive Director of the Nanaimo Community Hospice Society with a cheque in the amount of $1,100 at the VIREB offices on Metral Drive. “I can’t tell you what this means for me,” Pratt said during the presentation.
“On top of that I was surprised how good a hockey game it was – I think you’ve all played before.”
