In an effort to encourage green building initiatives in the province the Real Estate Foundation of British Columbia (REFBC) each year funds (in partnership with Vancity Credit Union) the Green Building Grant Program. The deadline for this year’s grant program, with some $200,000 in grants available, is Tuesday, April 2, 2013. The maximum individual grant available through this program is $50,000 and is available to developers on Vancouver Island.

The overall goal of the funding program is to reduce CO² emissions and other negative environmental impacts arising from settlement activity anywhere in the province of British Columbia. The program has been created to support building projects in the province that demonstrate leadership in the implementation of green building solutions and those that inspire others to take action and pursue green building opportunities on their own. The Program prefers projects completed by organizations that have not received this grant in the past.
