SAYWARD

Originally called Port Kusum, the Village of Sayward is a relatively old community by Vancouver Island standards. It’s located in the Sayward Valley on the northeast coast of Vancouver Island, perched at Newcastle Ridge’s base and the Salmon River’s mouth at Kelsey Bay, one of British Columbia’s most important estuaries.

Sayward lies in the unceded Traditional Territory of the K’omoks, We Wai Kai, and Wei Wai Kum First Nations. Approximately 350 people call Sayward home, and residents are happy to share the spectacular natural environment of northern Vancouver Island with visitors.
